In doubtful conditions Eversley Park CC took to the field first against a strong Upminster CC on Sunday with just the 10 available players.
Despite the best efforts of our bowlers Upminster raced along to 70 from the first 10 over. Some fine bowling from Richard Howes and Skipper Dan Bridgen plus 3 excellent catches from Josh Emerson helped EPCC restrict Upminster to 244 for 4 from their 40 overs.
The chase was on and with our usual aggressive batting approach the target was eaten into in quick fashion.
A typically swashbuckling 53 from Josh Emerson and a fine 4th wicket partnership between Phil Pollard (45) and Daniel Bridgen (36) set the game up for a truly entertaining finish.
Richard Howes explosive batting left EPCC needing only 10 from the final over. With a massive strike off the first ball of the over for 6 it left us needing only 4 runs from the last 5 balls and in the driving seat, unfortunately the faintest of edges accounted for Richard next ball and the tide had turned again.
Upminster managed to bowl themselves to victory in the fading light to win by 3 runs.
Another great cricket match with both sides scoring at over 6 runs per over and nearly 500 runs scored in a day.
