In doubtful conditions Eversley Park CC took to the field first against a strong Upminster CC on Sunday with just the 10 available players.
Despite the best efforts of our bowlers Upminster raced along to 70 from the first 10 over. Some fine bowling from Richard Howes and Skipper Dan Bridgen plus 3 excellent catches from Josh Emerson helped EPCC restrict Upminster to 244 for 4 from their 40 overs. The chase was on and with our usual aggressive batting approach the target was eaten into in quick fashion. A typically swashbuckling 53 from Josh Emerson and a fine 4th wicket partnership between Phil Pollard (45) and Daniel Bridgen (36) set the game up for a truly entertaining finish. Richard Howes explosive batting left EPCC needing only 10 from the final over. With a massive strike off the first ball of the over for 6 it left us needing only 4 runs from the last 5 balls and in the driving seat, unfortunately the faintest of edges accounted for Richard next ball and the tide had turned again. Upminster managed to bowl themselves to victory in the fading light to win by 3 runs. Another great cricket match with both sides scoring at over 6 runs per over and nearly 500 runs scored in a day. After a very wet and horrible morning, the game went ahead at Laindon Rec - with the game being reduced to 30 overs. With losing the toss, very surprisingly put into field.
A Ayres and T Keep restricted the first 10 to minimal runs, with T Westwell doing what he does best with figures of 6-3-9-2 with Holy Cross finishing on 100 exactly after 30 overs. M Knight made a steady 34, once he got out G Walker smashed a quick 34* with 2 sixes and we stormed to victory inside 19 overs Wickford have unfortunately cancelled the game this coming Sunday, however Dan has found a replacement! Now playing Holy Cross at Laindon Rec 2pm start!
Unfortunately we suffered a defeat at the hands of the Rising Stars on Sunday! Next game is Away to Wickford on Sunday 5th July!
